I'm looking into possibly getting one of the two handheld book readers. I'm talking about the BookPort and the Book Courier. Before I buy one, I want your opinions on these issues. First, which is the better device? Second, I see no difference between a BP and a BC; does anyone detect a difference? Third, which is the easiest to use? And finally, which is the cheaper buy?

I'd consider the victor reader stream above all of them. It seems to do everything, has good speech and seems like a good value for the buck.

I agree with John on this one. The Book Port isn't being manuractured any more, in preparation for the Book Port 2, which is supposed to be lynux-based. I've seen the stream on a couple of occasions, and its a neat product. One thing it has over the book port is built-in speech compression, so you can speed up audio files without altering the pitch of the content. You could speed up text files in the Book Port, but not an audio file read by a human.

The scary thing is the speech compression is excellent and trust me I never like that stuff. It's clean and clear and you really wouldn't know that anything is going on it just sounds like the person is reading faster. It's very nicely done...
